Friends meet us at the Special Olympics

During the competitions, we had some down time. I couldn't get back to Monroe. So a touch of Monroe came to me in North Branford! Kathie and Carl are in from California for the birth of their grandson. The four of us will meet up again in Arizona! We all hope, anyway. They are RV'ers and travel all over the U.S.

The special Olympics took place the weekend I was home. Faith and Chris always work the Special Olympics and it was a real blessing to be able to be there with them. The Second picture is the three of them telling me we could NOT settle in Georgia!

Ron on Wave Runner

While I was in Hartford, Ron and Tony connected once again and spent another day on these "wave runners" as they are called out here. Ron then attended their grandsons second birthday party with the family which was quite funny to hear about, because I can remember the little guys Daddy being two! And that seems like yesterday ...

St. John the Baptist Church

While in McHenry, we had to stop by our other "home" hoping to see some of the "family." St. John's was our parish in Illinois. We were VERY active in this church and many happy memories are attached to her. Ron and I were a team couple for Marriage Encounter during the time we lived here. But no one was home and all was locked tight. We never got to go inside.

Lou and Lee

Had dinner with more friends from McHenry. Lou is a dear dear friend. When my mother was dieing of cancer, this was the couple that took care of our two sons AND a collie Shepard dog named Trish, for a full month while I flew down to Florida with Faith Ann. Ron was able to continue working. Again, gratitude fills my heart as I think of the generosity of this wonderful couple. We have been friends for over 30 years.

More friends we met along the way

We stopped at Racine before getting to the Naval Base. Tony and Ron used to work together in Standard Oil many years ago. We have stayed in touch with Tony and Carol over the years and it was such fun to see them again, share a dinner and catch up on old times.

McHenry, Illinois

Sorry about the delay in updates. We took the boat to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Ron and Gilligan stayed aboard and I flew home to see our grandchild for five days. Prior to flying home, we rented a car and drove up to McHenry, where we used to live. These are treasured friends and long ago neighbors. Jack, far right, used to signal me to stand aside as he drove up our driveway with his ride on lawn mower, now winter plow! To this day, I remember the gratitude I always felt. He and Verta just celebrated 65 years together. We are lucky to have them in our lives. Carol and Chuck (next to me in green) do bike path security patrols. She's also a pilot in her spare time!
