The shad nets

About twenty miles south of Myrtle Beach, SC, while transiting the ICW, suddenly a small boat powered up and stopped directly in front of us in the channel. We attempted to take his stern, yet he repositioned himself again directly in front of our boat. We couldn't imagine what this guy was doing as he herded us, like cattle, out of the main channel, (still within deep water range of course) and as we neared his boat we saw the string of floating nets across the main channel. This area has many shad nets. The owners stand guard over the nets and redirect any traffic as it presents itself. From this point on, we knew to look for them and give them a wide berth.
